Premier Helps Regional Airport Extend its Runway

Premier Geotech and Testing recently helped a regional airport with a runway extension construction project. The project involved extensive testing to address lingering site issues relative to water intrusion and the breakdown of the underlying base material. The project initially appeared to be straight-forward; however as site constructability issues surfaced and created a challenging construction environment.

Premier's role included extensive density testing, proof-roll observations and a related, comprehensive laboratory testing program to support the testing being conducted in the field. Testing included soil classifications, Atterberg Limits of P-152 materials, sieve analyses, developing moisture-density relationships, and determining aggregate gradations. Construction is being completed and efforts continue to resolve any additional unforeseen issues.
